International Lolita Day 2010, Winter edition

I've got a bunch of events to catch up on!

Sheesh, it feels like the summer Lolita Day just passed! But here we are, Winter lolita day has come and gone, and 2011 is upon us! Here's what I did for Lolita Day on December 4th this year:

A few of the NYC group went to see La Boheme at the Metropolitan Opera. It was fantastic! A beautiful opera with some of the most iconic songs, even people who don't know opera will recognize at least one song from La Boheme!

Me and Dalin of La Vida Frills La Vida Frills sat together in a balcony box seat. We had a slightly blocked view of the stage, but for the price(about $50) you can't beat it! And I mean La Boheme isn't the most action packed show, so we didn't miss anything that couldn't be gleaned from the words. If you want to see some opera on a budget, I very much recommend a box seat! Here's some shots of the other seats from where we were sitting(no shots of the show of course):

Hmm, what's that? Some fancy ladies? Why, it's Kelsey of I Do Declare, and Martha of Moss Garden!

I loved the opera. La Boheme is just one of those operas that defines everything I love about opera: Great storyline, a little humor, far away setting, and of course fuckin fantastic music. I really loved the lead male who performed. The way he sang his lead aria "Che Gelida Manina" was very tender and loving, almost trembling. He really put the feeling into the character, like he was truly overwhelmed by his love for Mimi.

After the opera, we met up with a bunch of lolitas at The Russian Tea Room for an amazing tea experience!

Ahhh, my beloved Hymn jsk! This is my dream dress, and FINALLY after owning it over a year, I got to wear it in my ideal coord. I'm very much a perfectionist when it comes to my own coords, so I wouldn't post photos of me wearing it until I has perfected it to my satisfaction!

Here's the rundown:
Jumperskirt, socks: Alice and the Pirates
Cardigan, shoes: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Ribbon and rose hair corsage: made by me

The next day a small group of us went for tea again(what can we say, we love good food!!) at Rose House in the Queens Crossing Mall in Flushing. I love this place, it deserves it's own post. I got waffles and a sweet tea, but next time I'm so getting the tea that Miakoda got; Whiskey tea!!! It was fantastic! Tasty and sweet, and upon swallowing it left the delicious flavor of whiskey on your tongue without the alcohol burn. Might have to splurge and buy some to take home next time I go...

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everybody! What did you dress up as?

I wore two costumes myself. One for Mischief night...
Mischief Night '10 Marionette 1
A marionette! Creepy, right?!

Mischief Night '10 Marionette 2

Mischief Night '10 Marionette 4

Mischief Night '10 Marionette 3
I used concealer to help blank out my lips, then I used liquid liner to draw the lines and the creepy thin puppet mouth. I also wore a top and bottom set of false eyelashes to really give my eyes a doll like look. The puppeteer's handle is clipped to my hair. I got a lot of compliments on this outfit, and lots of weird catcalls("Hey puppet, I'll never tug on your strings, AWOOOO!!")

And on Halloween itself...
Halloween 10' witch 2
A cute witch!

I chose this outfit so it wouldn't be too scary for my 2 year old nephew. Here you can really see my hair straight. It looks so different!! My boyfriend got me this parka for my birthday in October. It's sooooo convenient, and cute too! It has really deep pockets. I adore it!

JSK, purse, jewelry: Angelic Pretty
shoes: Alice and the Pirates
parka: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
star clip: 6% Doki Doki

Ninja Death

Time to introduce a new post series!

It's happened to all of us. You're watching late night or saturday morning tv, or you pick up one of those dollar DVDs at the supermarket on a whim and you stumble across something amazing... amazingly BAD! And you can't look away. That's what this ongoinging series of posts is about: Celebrating the best of the worst!

One of the most notorious genres for bad movies is kung-fu movies. I have a few favorite bad kung-fu movies, but today I want to share one of my favorites: the Ninja Death trilogy.

(Ninja Death 2 and 3 start with the same intro sequence)

It's a trilogy of bad, adorned with an incredibly pointless storyline, and crowned with atrocious dubbed voice acting. These movies follow the story of Tiger, a chinese boy raised and taught kung-fu by a beggar. Turns out the beggar is actually Tiger's uncle, and Tiger is the son of a japanese princess and a ninja who were killed for defying the Grand Master, a dude in a gold lame jumpsuit. Plot for revenge insues, yadda yadda, et cetera, et cetera. There's a kinda busted looking love interest, a guy with a lovely teased ponytail named Fujiko(?!), the pimpin' villian in a gold lame jumpsuit, and so many bad special effects it'll make your head spin! A good series for parties; have your own Mystery Science Theater 3000 riff-a-thon!

Well, don't just sit there, go ahead, enjoy! Or, curse me for stealing hours from your life with this series. Whichever works for you.

Color Series: Rainbow

In this blog, I'll be doing "Color Series" posts; posts featuring my current favorite items of a certain color. One week might be red, the next week purple. For the first post, let's start with the best color... Rainbow! Okay, so it's not really a color, but it's fitting to start off with all the colors, right?

Well if you couldn't tell, I like rainbows. Big bright obnoxious colors, splattered all over, mmmhmmm gimmie more! I especially adore primary colors. And lately I feel like they're everywhere, tempting me, haunting me to buy them! Well, I caved and bought this beauty:

From Ichiroya.com

A rainbow furisode?! How could I stay away? I bought it from Ichiroya.com, a great vintage kimono website.

Shortly after buying it, I realized there's no way I could make a traditionally acceptable kimono coordinate out of this furisode. Not that it's not possible, but I know me, and I won't be able to stop myself from buying tons of rainbow accessories to go with it.

Like... rainbow false eyelashes, for example:

My heart beats out of my chest just thinking about them! Paired with some obnoxious fake nails...

Bingo! Now the only thing left is what to wear on my feet. What's the most obnoxious shoe in existence? Nope, it's not crocs! It's...
Photobucket
Platform thongs?! Eeeeew! Maybe that's taking it too far. Perhaps I should stop, before this dream-weaving shopping cart goes haywire...

On second thought...

Welcome

Welcome to my blog! Here you'll see daily outfits, photos from fashion shows I've attended or walked in, lifestyle and food, and anything else I want to share. I started this blog because LiveJournal communities were feeling a little cramped. I wanted to branch out and have a more sharable space to post the variety of things I wanted to share with a wider audience.
